Optimising Headway Clearance in Shopping Mall MEP Systems

This project focused on addressing the complexities of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) configurations within a Shopping Mall environment, where optimising headway clearance was crucial. The goal was to integrate MEP systems with architectural and structural elements while adhering to fire compliance, building codes, and MEP norms, all within the constraints of Shopping Mall design aesthetics.

Scope

The project scope included the following deliverables:

Headway Clearance Optimisation: Designing MEP systems to maximise headway clearance by carefully integrating them with the Shopping Mall's architectural and structural elements.

Compliance Documentation: Conducting a thorough study and documentation of fire compliance, building codes, and MEP norms to ensure that all systems meet the required regulatory standards.

Prefab and Modular Components: Incorporating prefabricated and modular components into the MEP system design to enhance space utilisation and streamline installation processes.

Challenge

The primary challenge was to achieve the required headway clearance within the Shopping Mall's constrained spaces while maintaining the complexity and functionality of the MEP systems. This involved navigating the intricate relationships between MEP configurations, architectural aesthetics, and structural elements.

Solution

To address these challenges, the following strategies were implemented:

Integrated Design Approach: Using Autodesk Revit, we developed an integrated MEP design that harmonised with the Shopping Mall's architectural and structural elements, ensuring optimal headway clearance without compromising functionality or aesthetics.
